The Basics: Manners & Movement

Everyday skills for better communication, calmer behavior, and an easier life together.

The Basics: Manners & Movement is a six-week group class offered through The Rescued Pup's Safe For Life program, created to give dog owners access to practical education, training and support.

In The Basics, your dog will learn foundational skills and manners for everyday life while you learn how dogs learn, how to communicate more clearly, and how to continue teaching and reinforcing those skills at home and in the real world.

What We'll Work On

Over the six weeks, we'll introduce and practice skills that give you and your dog a solid foundation, including:

• Polite greetings — practicing calmer ways to approach and interact with people

• Attention & engagement — helping your dog learn to check in and focus on you

• Sit & down — useful positions for everyday life

• Coming when called — building the foundation for a reliable recall

• Loose-leash walking — learning to move together without pulling

• Wait & stay — building duration and learning to remain in place

• Leave it — teaching your dog what to do when something is off limits

• Handling everyday distractions — practicing skills when the real world is competing for your dog's attention

Because every group of dogs is different, we'll adjust our time and practice along the way based on the dogs in class.

Who Is This Class For?

The Basics is designed for dogs and people who want to build or strengthen everyday skills. Your dog does not need previous training, and this isn't just a puppy class—dogs of all ages are welcome.

Because this is a group class, dogs should be able to participate safely around other dogs and people. If your dog's reactions to other dogs make traditional group classes difficult, our Reactive Dogs: Skills for Navigating Everyday Life class may be a better fit.

Classes are held in Ramona, California. The exact location and address will be provided after purchase.

One registration includes the complete six-week series for one dog and one handler.

About Safe For Life

The Safe For Life program was created around a simple idea: keeping dogs in the homes that already love them.

The Rescued Pup believes practical education, training and support should be accessible before everyday challenges become overwhelming. That's why Safe For Life classes are intentionally offered at affordable community pricing.

When people have the knowledge and tools to better understand their dogs, both ends of the leash benefit.

How We Train

Safe For Life classes use positive reinforcement and Fear Free/force-free training methods.

We'll introduce skills and concepts to the group, demonstrate what we're working on, and give you time to practice with your dog. You'll learn not only what to do, but why you're doing it and how to use those skills in everyday life.

Classes are led by a Fear Free Certified trainer with 14 years of dog training and behavior experience.

Before You Buy

Please make sure you can attend the scheduled class dates before registering. Missed group classes cannot be made up or credited.

After purchase, you'll complete your class registration paperwork, provide proof of current rabies vaccination, and review and sign the required participation agreements.

Your spot is reserved when payment is received, but registration paperwork must be completed before attending class.

We don't expect your dog to arrive knowing how to do everything.
